"A" is for...

Abjured
by Rain Whitney

Sunrise awoke Maren out of a miserable sleep. She still had a taunt grip on her gun as she pulled it out from underneath the pillows. She checked the clip, took off the safety and silently moved around the apartment, trying every lock on every door and window, listening...waiting...hoping it would all soon be done with. She was exhausted from being tracked, watched and shadowed by his evil, clan-ish family.

In several days, Emil would be found NOT guilty, all because of her false testimony that gave him an ironclad alibi, renouncing all doubt the jury might have had to convict him. He had used her, lied to her and threatened to make her disappear forever if she refused...terrified, she had agreed. Maren saved her life and the lives of her family in that bargain. Now, the bitter regret of lies proclaimed in court to protect a killer seeped into her soul and took her over.

As she picked up the phone to call the Prosecutor, a calm urgency rested comfortably in her heart and tears of relief rolled easily down onto her smiling face...
